Let me post my predictions for the semifinals!
So happy to see Miss Hong Kong back with a semifinal!
May the best ladies make it! Good show ladies!

MISS HONG KONG 2021 SEMIFINAL PREDICTIONS (TOP 12):

Only five more days until Miss Hong Kong 2021!! So happy that TVB decided to organize the pageant under the current pandemic. It certainly is not easy.
Rumors are that the pageant will be held in HK Coliseum this year! Hopefully the plans go through! The last time the pageant was held in the venue was back in 2001, exactly 20 years ago! Interestingly, that was also the last time Jacky Cheung performed in the pageant. He will make a return as a guest performer!
Kudos to Eric Tsang for bringing the pageant back to its glamour and grand production!

It was refreshing to see a semifinal competitor for the first time since 2014! While the elimination rounds weren’t that suspenseful (the mirror idea was good but TVB already announced which eight girls were in the “needs improvement” group and all of the last four girls that were eliminated came from that group), it certainly was great to see a semifinal competition.

Here are more of my thoughts on each girl before coming with a final prediction on Saturday or Sunday.

Thoughts on the top 12 semifinalists:

2. Rachel Chan - I had making it into the top 12 because I liked her transformation. She lost weight. I find her increasingly beautiful and would not be surprised if she manages to make top 5. I think it’s unlikely but the judges may like her story.

3. Yvette Chan - Yvette certainly has a beautiful face. I think she has what it takes to make top 3 but she isn’t standing out as much as I want her to. She needs to work up her stage presence because in a rather facially weak year, her beauty is certainly her biggest asset. She also needs to tell more about her story/ background as I’m not hearing as much about her than the other girls.

4. Fabienne Kwan - I knew Fabienne would make top 12 as soon as she performed with her dad! Even though I dislike conspiracy theories, I can’t help but think (many many others online) that she is favored because of her dad’s relationship with TVB. She has improved a lot since the staycation series but she isn’t standing out as much as the other ladies. Her interview skills are so-so and her height is at a disadvantage. I find it interesting how the other ladies are favoring her that much. I would like to see her deliver during finals and prove that she is worthy of top 5 or even top 3 placement if she does make it.

8. Sabrina Mendes - She remains the one to beat. Very articulate, calm, elegant, she has all the traits to win. Her performance during semifinals was excellent. My only critique may be for her to show a little more personality, while I think she has the overall package (education, age, beauty, interview skills, etc.), she can show the audience more of who Sabrina is. Very consistent and likely top 3 placement.

10. Penny Yeung - Just when I thought she will be the Mainland contestant to be eliminated, turns out it was Fiona and Anna! Penny has less of an accent than both of them but I think a top 5 placement is highly unlikely. I really liked her interview and she stood out during the group talent performance but she has many factors working against her - young age, education, Mainland background, and some argue facial beauty. It would be a very tough uphill battle to make top 5.

11. Michelle Ip - I like her modeling background! If a HK rep is needed to go to Miss Universe/ Miss Universe China, I may send her because of catwalk. But, since this is Miss Hong Kong, I don’t think Michelle will do very well mainly because her interview skills are quite flat. I’m not sure if it was nerves but I hope she can do better in finals. Some also argue that she doesn’t have the facial beauty but I think her height and walk are decent. We will see how the number one ranked Green Team contestant fares on Sunday.

13. Cathy Wong - I think she has the height and stage presence (so important in pageants). I think she has decent interview skills. She may be a dark horse to make top 5.

14. Kristy Shaw - I’m a fan of Kristy after watching the finale of the Staycation series. I like her voice and when she cried for the ladies that got eliminated. I felt that she had stronger interview answers than what she had to say in semifinals. She too will need to heighten her stage presence as she is not standing out as much of the other ladies.

15. Carina Leung - she may not have the best interview skills but there is no denying of her beauty. She has a beautiful smile and eyes. She actually has a good body and catwalk. If she can change her tone (like what Hoyan Mok said in Staycation series) and work her personality a bit, I can see her taking the crown. She remains a solid pick for top 3.

18. Vincy Mok - what a pleasant surprise! I liked her more after the semifinals. She stood out to me thanks to her height and figure. Her interview answers were quite witty and thoughtful too. I have her a dark horse to make top 5/3. If anything that is working against her, it may be her facial beauty although in a somewhat facially weak year, stage presence and personality may actually get you quite far in the pageant.

19. Jasmin Schneider - her styling is improving more and more! She looks quite beautiful after semifinals. I really like that she can speak five languages! Despite so, I think top 5 placement is unlikely because her Cantonese is not too good. The young age and education is also working against her and hence top 12 may be her likely placement.

20. Katarina Leung - last but not least! I really like her semifinals introduction. She seems quite confident and while that’s a plus, facially, she is one of the most heavily criticized semifinalists this year. I do know though she likely impressed the Wai Yin Organization and judges so let’s see if that is enough to bring her into the top 5.

MISS FRIENDSHIP PREDICTION:

MISS FRIENDSHIP: 19. Jasmin Schneider - bubbly personality
Other ladies that are may win - 14. Kristy Shaw and 4. Fabienne Kwan (she seems to be highly mentioned by the ladies).
