Let me quickly post my thoughts before I need to go to school.... the preliminary competition started a little late and the transmission was laggy in the beginning but fortunately the streaming went really good in the middle to the end of the evening gown competition. MUCH BETTER THAN USTREAM!
The stage was really beautiful. Good job MUO!!
After thinking that it would be a weak year this year, the girls certainly proved me wrong!!!! They all worked the stage (especially the Latinas) and all the beautiful gowns/ fit bodies showed me that this year would be tough. I HAVE TO SAY, THIS YEAR HAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL/ SPARKLY GOWNS EVER IN MU HISTORY! I liked British Virgin Islands, Venezuela, Mexico (even though she is not on my list), Jamaica (she worked it), and Thailand's gowns the most.
There are many favorites that I had and unfortunately, some didn't perform as well as I thought and many surprises popped up. I think Saturday will be a interesting night, anybody agree??
OK, MY FAVORITES THAT didn't perform that well and I fear them for not making the cut on Saturday are:
Poland (please change to one piece, the gown was okay but with such a beautiful face, she needs adjustments. Still have her on my list but not Miss Universe though)
Switzerland (Her black gown dressed her and not the other way around. She was overshadowed)
Australia (seems like the streak will be over. Her body wasn't fit and the gown wasn't particularly outstanding. THERE WERE MANY BEAUTIFUL GOWNS THIS YEAR).
Italy (pretty face but that one piece and gown did her in. I don't think she'll make it.)
Croatia (she looks pretty but dry performance)
SURPRISES (ADDING THEM TO MY LIST AFTER PRELIMINARIES):
Puerto Rico (the country with 5 MU crowns is not playing around. She looks like a mix of Denise Q. and Alba R.!!! She had great stage presence)
Nicaragua (I was hesitant to add her on my list because this country rarely places, but she worked it tonight. The gown could be a little better but her swimsuit body was one of the best!!)
Colombia (SEE THE TREND, ANOTHER LATINA! She looks really beautiful and presented well. Not surprised if she goes on top)
Israel (I thought she was inconsistent at times but she stood out tonight. Many are feeling her too so I think she can make it).
Dominican Rep. (Same with Israel. She has a distinction look but also stands out so I think she has a chance)
Philippines (The straight, black hair fits her really well. I thought she was inconsistent on camera and in photos but she wowed me tonight. The hair can be kept the same during the evening gown competition though.)
REMAIN STRONG:
France (she needed more energy but her exotic looks will get her noticed).
Bolivia (I hope the sash doesn't hold her back. The performance was safe but I think her face will keep her in the game)
USA (SAFE, SAFE, SAFE!! The gown was very 90s but she walked slow and gave a solid performance. Top 5 is certainly on the horizon Erin!!)
Spain (BEAUTIFUL!! She stood out and I think she is the one to beat at this moment.)
Venezuela (Gown was great, body was also fair, Venezuela will be a shoo-in)
Ukraine (Stunning!! Not surprised if she wins it all on Saturday!!)
STANDOUTS that are not on my list but MAY GET THE CALL:
Korea (angelic face but her body was very white... if she got a tan, I think she'll easily get the call)
Jamaica (facially not the strongest but worked that gown!!!)
Japan (see Jamaica)
Malaysia (Many Asians seem to fall in this category. The Malaysian team is certainly preparing their girls nicely and this year's rep. is not an exception)
China (tall, body was good, gown was safe, facially not as strong but can pull a surprise!)
South Africa (She looks cute and traditionally, SA reps. excel in interview)
India (see South Africa)
Panama, Paraguay (Although she went under the knife, I thought she stood out in swimsuit and presented with lots of energy/confidence!)
Argentina (see Panama and Paraguay minus the facial beauty though)
GETTING THE CALL FOR POLITICAL REASONS?
Brazil (I honestly don't think she's pretty..... but many seem convinced about her so I will give her a spot. Brazil hosting Universe next year (unfortunately not Philippines) certainly boasts her chances on Saturday)
Russia (I DON'T HAVE HER ON MY LIST. I once did but it is for political reasons. She stood out tonight but in a very bad way. The gown was hideous, her body was out of shape... If she gets the call, it's because of the Russian organizers)
Azerbaijan (I honestly don't hope she and Russia make it on Saturday because of the Agalarovas' background but, I wouldn't be surprised......)
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS??
