I do agree that TVB doesn't care too much on height.... I thought #9 Singapore was out for sure but she wowed me! I knew after that interview, she will be second place. I wanted New York to make it though (yes, lol, I am also from NY). If only TVB had a top 5 announcement.. pretty sure #15 New York and #26 Hong Kong would have gotten the call.
Anyway, didn't see your predictions in time (the poster above), but #17 Toronto did not even make the top 10. A little shocked that #19 Vancouver didn't even place..... To be honest, I never really got her but from all the press attention and hype, I thought she will make it. Her answers were also great and Van. does very well in recent years so I thought she will AT LEAST make top 10.
But... she was shut out of top 10, as a matter of fact, NO CANADIAN representatives made the top 10 this year. This is THE FIRST that has happened... any that I can think of. Quite a repeat of 2008... but Montreal made it then.

Did anybody see the pageant? What were your thoughts? I loved the opening, it was very nice and the interview questions were quite good. My only compliant would be the format, 28 -> 10 and then to 3.... I would have preferred 28 -> 12 -> 5 and then to 3...
voting format was more exciting this year... although I wanted and knew the judges would have chosen the facially prettier #11 Kelly over #9. Kelly would have looked better (who did her styling!?) without all the make up.. she looked better during the press conference than during the crowning.......... not so good imo.
Anyway, the results were overall fair, all the top 3 finishers answered their questions well. When I heard #9 speak and answer the question (she mastered it), I knew she would make the top 3. I wanted #15 or #26 to make it but #9 wasn't as bad as I thought. Probably bec. she reminds me of a girl who I don't like... (she happens to be short), that is why I was a little biased against her. She did interview well so I was ok with her placement.
Entertainment was very nice, loved the opening of Raymond Lam dancing. His fast songs built up the mood and the contestants' beauty. I thought he did better than Hacken Lee or the other new stars......
Astrid Chan was a good host (glad she was there) and Eric Tsang was also good. MC Jin.... excepted a much more energetic, knows how to work up a crowd performance from him, but he was also decent. His English pronounication is good though (better than Derek Lee). He didn't use his English a lot though (many girls spoke Cantonese or Mandarin this year).

I am not extremely satisified with my predictions.............. At one moment I had Chicago on the top but after she started losing attention from the press, she dropped down my list... but she was the most well-rounded imo (5'9" height, model, spoke Cantonese, nice catwalk, poised, and good interview). Singapore was more of the confident, eloquent winner (similar to Belle in 2010) so I didn't think she will win.
A little surprised that Lenna placed 3rd... I thought she would win (her interview was good, she bagged 2 awards already, looked very pretty). I guess she lost out on her body... or maybe because she looked like Fala a lot (judges don't like a Fala to win). Judges preferred a fresh, new face, and Kelly was the one.
CHICAGO HAS NEVER made the top 3 and USA has never won in 2000s. Kelly Cheung of Chicago has done it. Congratulations to her!

Let me see.... in terms of predictions, I correctly predicted that #5 and #26 will win their region awards.
Out of the top 10 semifinalists... I only got.... #5, 11, 15, 25, and 26 right.... #12 just barely fell out of my list.
After looking on screen, I thought #1 looked more photogenic so then I knew she would have advanced over her other Auckland rep. #3 Bangkok was ok, she had a ok look.. #7 was more pretty on screen than on tv and Melbourne supports TVB a lot, so she made it. #9 Singapore..... she looks decent and is the shortest girl in the pageant but her confident and performance on stage helped her. After hearing her final interview, I knew she would make top 3. She must have received A LOT of points to overcome the big favorite and my prediction, #5 Lenna. Up to the top 10 interview, I had her near the bottom five....
#11 Chicago made it and that was great, #12 Roro was Europe's only rep. and TVB Europe supports TVB a lot, so not surprised to see her up there. #15 New York has a mixed, oriental, metropolitan feel/style, so I knew she would make it (although I was scared when she was last announced). I thought #16 would make it but her introduction to Chinese culture (short talk with Eric) did it for her.... her voice and the "lazy sounds" caused her to fall out. I thought she had a chance.
Then comes Erica..... many said she is great and could of won, but I didn't find her to be very pretty. Her grace and answer during interviews caused me to place her higher and since Vancouver usually does well in MCI, I thought would make it all the way to top 2... but... she didn't even make top 10. Must have been the biggest surprise of the night, I thought she deserved top 10 at least.
I know one China rep. would make it but excepted #22 Beijing. I knew it would be her or #25 Dailan, but wasn't sure... but after seeing #25 Dailan trip during the introduction (despite handsome Fung catching her), I thought she would probably not place... But, happy to see her make it, her quick introduction to Chinese culture redeemed herself.
#26 Rebecca was full of confidence, knew she would be a top 3 contender until her interview... she received one of the toughest questions and NO women wanted to answer it. She had to and... she did not answer as well as I excepted. In the end... she didn't make top 3 (again, I will mention it, had there been a top 5, she would have made it). The questions also caused New York to do bad... I thought she was a top 3 contender until her interview... INTERVIEW QUESTIONS were good but they should NOT have right or wrong answers.. the girls who answer completely right GET high points while ones who don't know and are forced to answer (i.e. #26, #7) will end up doing poorly....

OK, pros and cons of the pageant.........
Pros: Opening (handsome performer, music was great) Hosts (Astrid Chan was great) Swimsuits (showed their figures well) Stage (like the ramp out to the stage, quite big) Backstage info (liked when the camera showed the girls crying backstage) 28 -> 10 (would of preferred top 12 though)
Cons: Top 10 to 3.... no more of this again Voting (it was exciting but I prefer announcement of winner better) Questions (NO RIGHT or Wrong answers next time) MC Jin (excepted more of a energetic, more-English translation from him. He took Derek Lee's place.....) SUM MAY (He took up so much time talking..... sometimes he is funny but most of the time, his tips... well, they are just wasting time...). His airtime is even higher than the performers AND most of the delegates. That time COULD OF BEEN USED for top 5 announcement and 2 more girls to interview (forming a top 12). This was the one I did not like the most.

Hey everyone,
Does anyone know where I can watch the pageant? It's not on the TVB website anymore and all the downloadable links don't work anymore. Thanks!

Search it via Tudou, there are links there. Give comments to the pageant after you watched it... I know guests are reading but it's a pity that they can't spare some time to leave comments... the whole thread is virtually my posts and it is boring...........

I thought the pageant was pretty good, Lenna probably didn't win because she was skinny in the swimsuit segment.

Yes, maybe because of Lenna's body. She answered pretty well and was quite confident. I thought she had it in the bag... anyway, just hope TVB announces a top 5 for next year..........
Pretty sure New York and Hong Kong would had made top 5 if it was announced.
