actually, i think mcimci has a valid point.

there is most likely some type of leverage towards mhk contestants in mci because well, they're from hk and hk is usually the hosting country. aside from that, many judges from the panel are also in one way or another, connected to tvb itself. HOWEVER, i'm not saying they're going to be giving out mci awards for mhk contestants because of that. all i'm saying is that maybe some of the reasons why mhk always gets placed in mci is because

1)mhk contestants (after being placed mhk) are always highly promoted by tvb and many other media sources. every country (being represented in mci)are usually very aware of who mhk is, and all her background information. this also means that the public (even including toronto and vancouver) has all this knowledge and hype towards mhk because she gets promoted by the media 1000x more than an MCT or MCV. because of this, there is usually a growing 'affection' towards mhk (even before they enter MCI). favoritism can be good, or bad.

2) because tvb usually hosts the MCIs, there's always large amounts of pressure placed upon mhk (by the media, internal tvb staff) to perfect all segments of the competition because mhk has to make tvb/hk look good. there's definitely a perfect image that mhk has to uphold, and thus, through pressure, they tend to work harder to perfect their performance. (no offence to other contestants, who work probably equally as hard). a perfect example of this is all the media hype about how aimee made a fool of herself when she was promoting hk using the bruce lee dvd. If it was another contestant who did the poses and such, there wouldn't be such hype about it (her not being ready etc etc). BUT BECAUSE it's mhk who didn't perfect that segment, she gets a lot of critism from the media. thus this shows that there is a certain image that mhk's are obliged to uphold during this competition.

as mentioned above, favoritism can exists, and i wouldn't be surprised if mci titles were given to mhk just because of favoritism, however, i'm not implying that they all were. i'm sure many deserve their placements because of their hard work.

I'm appalled that the Montreal rep is being criticized for her size. She is a very healthy figure. The HK press covering MCI is utterly unprofessional.
